Letrozole: 7 things you should know

What are some things I need to know or do while I take this drug?

• Advise females of reproductive potential to use effective contraception during treatment with letrozole and for at least 3 weeks after the last dose.

Letrozole was teratogenic to rats at a dose of 0.03 mg/kg (approximately 0.01 times the maximum recommended human dose on a mg/m 2 basis) and caused fetal domed head and cervical/centrum vertebral fusion. Letrozole lowers the levels of the female sex hormone oestrogen in the body. These breast cancers are called hormone sensitive or hormone receptor positive. Letrozole can stop or slow the growth of these cancers.
